1930’S SWISS BUREN FRENCH PREWAR STEEL CASED 1930’S GLOSS RADIUM DIALED 1930’S
RECOMMEND KEEPING DIAL AS IS WITH
original crystal was partial celluloid
STEEL CASE CAME OUT GREAT
NON GLARE FINISH
FIRST CLEANED UP ALL MARKS
EVEN LUG AREA LIKE NEWN
I AM TORN HERE. ON ONE SIDE THIS ORIGINAL DIAL IS IN AWESOME CONDITION. THE ORIGINAL DEAD RADIUM THAT STILL CLICK A COUNTER, THOUGH NOT IN ANYWAY HARMFUL AT ALL, IS SIMPLY SUPER ALL THE WAY TO THE OUTER WHITE SWEEPS CHAPTER. THE FINISH IS GLOSS, WHICH MEANS PRE 1939/40. I MAY BE ABLE TO BRUSH LUMINOVA OVER RADIUM.
THE ABOVE SAYS IT ALL. A 7 JEWEL. DEFINITIVELY A 1930’S. THOUGH RECALL THE MIMO THAT WAS PURCHASED BY GERMANY IN 1936/7 IT ALSO WAS LOW JEWEL. 9 JEWELS TO BE CORRECT

STAINLESS CASE IS EXCEPTIONAL
SCREW BACK FRENCH CASE MADE BEFORE WWII
CASE MADE IN FRANCE
ALL STAINLESS SAYS IT ALL
MY CONCLUSIONS THAT THIS IS A RARE 1936 BUREN GRANDPRIX ARE BACKED BY THE VERY BUREN GRANDPRIX MOVEMENTS. ABOVE 1ST 1940 TO 1950 IS THE SAME MOVEMENT WE HAVE HERE. EXCEPT THE JEWEL COUNT WENT TO 15/17 JEWELS. THE SAME BUREN GRANDPRIX WATCH AFTER 1950 IS THE ONE TOP RIGHT. COMPLETE CHANGE IN PLATES BRIDGES DESIGN. ANOTHER ITEM IS THAT OUR MOVEMENT AT BOTTOM MATCHES THAT OF WWII EXCEPT JEWELS AND THE MOST IMPORTANT? NONE HAVE THE EARLY 1930 HIGHER END BALANCE ADJUSTER. ONLY THOSE MADE PRIOR TO WWII. AND, ONCE THE WAR BEGAN AND ENDED FOR FRANCE –NOT THE FREE FRENCH FORCES– IN 1939, CASES FOR WATCHES STOPPED UNTIL AFTER THE WAR.
I REST MY CASE
BUREN GRANDPRIX 7 JEWELS 1936
MOVEMENT IS A 1936 SUB SECOND REGISTER
IN OTHER WORDS IT BEGAN AS A SUB SECONDS
By 1942, the sweep second hand watch had became “the” watch. Two of the major reasons were the Government issued U.S.A. A-11 hacking sweep seconds pilots watch and the sweep seconds watches in demand by Doctors, Medics and Nurses and other professionals.. The sweep second watch simply made the watch more than an instrument to “tell time”….
So, what did BRANDS do?
Did they re-tool and re-design new movements? NO!
They simply placed a hollow canon pinion that allowed a wheeled center shaft to protrude through the dial, mounted a second hand to it, and ran the combo with the very sub-seconds wheel they were eliminating…
Instead of the drive train turning the dial protruding shaft/pinion at 6 position connected to the tiny second hand, they mounted a large brass/alloy wheel on the opposite side of the shaft that now protruded through the bridge. That wheel turned a wheel on top of a NEW center “shaft’ held in position be a new this jeweled bridge that went through a new HOLLOW center cannon pinion in the center of the movement that then protruded through the center of the dial where a new long sweep second hand attached; the idea being that one had a large second hand that went round in tune with the movement and the chapter ring so one could count, time & now even synchronize.
SET BRIDGE + LEVER FINE
AFTER CLEAN I GET HER RUNNING
